It didn't make it into the vacay bag but I look forward to reading it this fall. <br />Isaacs Storm DID make it into the vacay bag!!! If it's very new, probably not. We lived in Reno, NV, for several years (most were pre-blog) and I read a lot of books about the Donner Party, as well as other books on the local history of the area. (I always tend to read books about any new area we move to.) There was some anthropological research and excavation being done on the Donner camp site(s) when we lived there and a lot of new information was discovered.Lori Lhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04575196285923366103noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5573357821818617458.post-28764840360799648882009-07-13T18:04:19.014-05:002009-07-13T18:04:19.014-05:00This is one of my favorites, too. But I think it would be sadder still for these tragedies to pass without being noted. I find it encouraging to learn what human beings have endured and withstood through the ages. Have you read THE INDIFFERENT STARS ABOVE by Daniel James Brown? It's a new book about the Donner Party and is definitely of the same caliber as this book.Gwendolyn B.https://www.blogger.com/profile/03306180985189176946noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5573357821818617458.post-59656135547122289972009-07-13T14:06:58.209-05:002009-07-13T14:06:58.209-05:00Well... yes, it probably is depressing in the end ...Well... yes, it probably is depressing in the end if only because it was a horrible natural disaster. It's called The Children's Blizzard because many of the people who died were school children.Lori Lhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04575196285923366103noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5573357821818617458.post-19093375562560552522009-07-13T14:02:17.957-05:002009-07-13T14:02:17.957-05:00I have never heard of this book before, but it doe...I have never heard of this book before, but it does sound like my sort of thing - is it really depressing though?Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07698068501004755678noreply@blogger.com
