jumping

When confronting peer pressure, parents everywhere ask their children questions such as, "If your friends jumped off a cliff would you jump too?"

Thinking my college aged children were too mature and intelligent to succumb to this kind of peer pressure, I had to face the brutal truth this week.

Q: If your college friends decided to jump off the roof of a house on to a mattress, would you jump too?

A: Yes. Both of them.

Quotes from my daughter, Just me, who hurt her ankle jumping:

"It wasn't as much fun as I thought it would be."

"If this is the worst thing we do, you should be happy."

Edited to add:
It was apparently a big-blow-up-and-jump-on kind of cushiony
mattress, which is a bit better, in a way.
It has also come to my attention that Just Me and Wonder Boy think this post makes them appear stupid. I am truly sorry that they feel this way, but then, again, they did both jump....

I guess on a positive note that it is true that it's a good thing if that is the worst that they do. Kids, huh?

I didn't just do it because "everybody else" was doing it. I did it more to impress people, and I sort of think it worked.

Also, I only had hot chocolate to drink. I was such a good little girl, I didn't even have coffee at night!

Here's a quote from Johnny Rambo himself. I have full permission to use this quote.

"I guarantee, if I'd been there, I would have flown off that roof faster than you could blink, even knowing the consequences."

I can picture Johnny Rambo jumping... in fact, I can picture him jumping before that jumper called Wonder Boy.

Johnny Rambo asks what that comment is supposed to mean. He wonders just what you are implying.

He would ask you himself, but this blog does not allow anonymous comments.

Oh brother and bother... You and Johnny Rambo need to let it go and move on. I can picture Johnny Rambo taking the risk of jumping off a roof before I can picture Wonder Boy taking the same risk. This implies that I see Johnny Rambo as more athletic and one more likely to take risks in general. Wonder Boy is more analytical and methodical. He waited and watched some jumpers before he jumped. Johnny Rambo by his own words said, he would have "flown off that roof faster than you could blink." I also see Johnny Rambo as one more likely to do sky diving or bungee cord jumping.

But it is so fun to talk about.

Aaahhh.... I see that Johnny Rambo didn't disagree with my assessment that he would be one more likely to jump than Wonder Boy. The jumping order, as I see it, would be Johnny Rambo, Just Me, Wonder Boy. The only thing that places Just Me down behind Johnny Rambo is that she has to take off some jewelry before jumping.
